Running Stories

Jack Sargeant

What got you into running?

I started running 12 years ago at the age of 19. I had an initial goal of running a half marathon. My first half was the Congleton Half in October 2012, which then led me to enquire about joining Congleton Harriers. I initially started running with a few club members at weekends who were extremely welcoming, and they helped me to go on to achieve my goal of running the Manchester Marathon in April 2013.

What is your proudest running achievement?

The race I’m most proud of is running the Berlin Marathon in 2015 in 3 hours and 38 minutes. It was amazing to run a marathon abroad and to see the city of Berlin. It’s also a really flat and fast course, so it’s perfect for anyone aiming for a PB!

I’m also really proud of my running performance in summer 2019, where I was able to experience all of the Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series for the first time (a fantastic race series with a just as great race series t-shirt) Here I achieved my highest placed finish in a harrier’s club summer competition of 2nd.

What do you like about running with the club?

It’s definitely how welcoming the harriers is to everyone and the social side. I’ve made lots of great friends throughout my time at the club who have helped me to achieve my running goals. I also love running as a team in cross country and the many great away runs the club organises.
