Press Report 24th June 2018 from Nick Budd.
An ode to Jo ……
If the fish swam out of the ocean
And grew legs and they started walking
And the apes climbed down from the trees
And grew tall and they started talking ….Running
Black and gold, black and gold, black and gold (Cheshire)

It was a short, sharp run for the third SMAC summer series race on Thursday - a 3mile run up and down Shutlingsloe. Andy Roberts in 19th position and 2nd in the M50 category was first Congleton Harrier home in a time of 29:13 (a mere 2 seconds behind the M50 winner) followed by Dave Clark 25th in a time of 30:13, James Yates 47th in 31:58, Charmaine Wood 49th in 32:08, Alice Nimmo 88th in 36:04, Poly Kennerley 107th in 37:57, Nige Poole 108th in 38:00, Ali McNinch in 48:51 and Jack McNinch in 48:51.
On Sunday Ian Prime and Rob competed in the popular Round Sheffield Run yesterday - a multistage, multi terrain race around Sheffield totalling 11.5 Miles with around 2000 ft of climb. Ian finished in a time of 2.03.43 for 1020th place out of the 1832 competing and Rob crossed the line 3 minutes later in 2.06.22 for 1089th place. Rob’s run was impressive as it’s a return to competitive running after a four-month layoff with next to no training.
On Sunday six Harriers also joined thousands of other runners who braved the hot temperatures to take part in the 2018 Wilmslow Half Marathon. This popular half marathon normally takes place in much cooler conditions in March but had to be re-scheduled due to snow. Sensible running and plenty of stops for hydration saw all the Harriers complete the gruelling run.
Emma Weston finished in 1:37:39 earning 3rd place in the F45 category. Nick Wilkins in 1:47:25, Mike Stanley finished in 1:48:02, Andrew Bell in 1:53:10, Martin Sands in 1:53:02 and Jackie Moss, in her first outing at the half marathon distance in 2:19:16
Finally a special mention has to go to Jo Moss who was selected to run for Cheshire in the inter counties race at Stone 10k on Sunday. Jo finished in 98th place overall and 3rd in F45-49 category with a time of 42:32.
Congleton Harriers run three times a week from the leisure centre on Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays and always welcomes new members. Full details are on the Congleton Harriers website: Congleton-harriers.co.uk.
